Are you wondering what comes in your resume package? Review the list below to find out what the different formats are and why you need them.
Your Improved Resume is your one page document detailing your work history, education, skills, and accomplishments. Think of it as a flyer that you are using to sell you to the company you would like to work for. Your resume is the first thing everyone will see regarding you, so together we are going to make it perfect.
Your Improved Resume will be written by one of our Improved Resume Writers (IRW) using our proprietary Improve It! System (for more about the Improve It! System, click here). Your resume will be written with your full input. After your purchase you will fill out our Improved Resume Form. Once your form has been submitted you will be contacted by your IRW and receive your Improve It! Sheets. Your resume will be written to maximize your chances of getting noticed.
A cover letter is a resume’s best friend. They hardly go anywhere without each other. Your cover letter will set up your resume. It will entice the reader into really wanting to read your resume and hopefully motivating them to contact you. In a cover letter you are not bound to the constraints of a resume format. You can really let your voice out. A cover letter is very important, and should never be forgotten to be used.
Your cover letter will be written in conjunction with your resume and not as an after thought as with some sites. Your cover letter will also be written with your constant input. Your IRW will make sure enthusiasm and relevant keywords will be prevalent in your cover letter.
The Microsoft Word version of your resume is important to your job hunt, because Microsoft Word (R) is the most popular word processing program on the market today. This format is perfect for attaching to an email, or uploading to an online application. You will be able to print out a copy of your resume almost anywhere. All of your other resume formats will be derived from this version. You will receive your resume in the most widely accepted Microsoft Word file, Microsoft Word 97-2000. The layout of your resume will be as simply (yet appealing) formatted to maintain consistency over different versions of Word.
The ASCII version of your resume is an important part of your job hunt, because you will use this format in a variety of ways. You will use this format for sending email versions of your resume, filling out online job applications, cutting and pasting a copy of your resume, and sending a "mobile" version of your resume. The ASCII format is extremely versatile and is second only to the Word version of your resume. For more information on the ASCII Resume and to see an example, click here.
The Scannable version of your resume is an important part of your job search because this version is perfect for faxing and mailing your resume. In the scannanble version of your resume, the layout and font styling is designed in an open manner to allow an OCR program to pick up each character in a word more clearly. The PDF version of your resume is an important part of your job search, because you will use it as a downloadable copy of your resume. A PDF file is one of the most popular file formats out there. Anyone, on any computer, and even some mobile devices will be able to open this file and view your resume. You can attach this file format to an email, upload it to a database, carry it with you on a flash drive, or add it to a website. Out of all the resume versions, the PDF format is the most acceptable. For more about the PDF Resume and to see a sample, click here.
The Web Ready version of your resume is an important part of your job search, because now more and more job hunters are expected to have a web presence while looking for work. This means someone interested in you should be able to access a resume of you at anytime, anywhere. Also, in a lot of cases it will be easier to give them a website address than a paper resume. The Web Ready Resume we will create for you will come pre-loaded with the necessary HTML to get you online. It will match your print resume in formatting and content. You will be able to submit it to any resume hosting sites or you can post it yourself. For more about the Web Ready Resume, and to see a sample, click here.
Unlike your resume, the Microsoft Word Cover Letter is not the most important version of your cover letter. There are only 2 versions of a cover letter, the printed and the electronic. This will be your printed version. However you will not use it as often as you will use your ASCII Cover Note. When sending your letter through the mail or by fax, this is the version you will use.
The ASCII Cover Note is the version of your cover letter you will use all of the time. Since the average job hunters spends most of their time online looking for jobs, most correspondence is done solely by email.
The Personalized CD you will receive with your Professional or Multi-Tasker package contains a back-up copy of all of your Improved Resume files. This CD is for your convenience. You will receive an email with all created files the same day your IRW finishes your resume. Your Personalized CD will come in the mail along with your printed copies. Your Personalized CD contains a "Read Me" file containing the best ways to use your files to achieve the best results in your job hunt.
